Katherine Zimmerman’s trial date is now May 15th and your support for this young lady against whom very serious charges have been filed in this malicious prosecution is needed and welcome. Do not think that just because there were witnesses, video tape was running and the allegations seem ludicrous that she will prevail in this heavily slanted court system. Please come and support Katherine Zimmerman and these other brave opponents of the illegal, immoral and murderously brutal war in Iraq.
Three new arrests were made at Monday’s walk from Arcata to Eureka for the Eureka pro-immigrant march to the court house. Sierra, who was arrested in the November 2nd critical mass ride from Arcata to Eureka, was one of the three arrested Monday. When I get court dates I will post them here.
Other civil litigation continues in the Humboldt Superior court as well. PL is still trying to pursue a SLAPP past the 5 year statute of limitations by citing possible minor errors in form made by this small group of environmentalists and are trying to leverage that claim by then also claiming to not have papers they were served at that time, 5 years ago now. This is going on in courtroom 3 at 3:30 (Wednesday the 4th) as of this writing and scheduled to go to trial Monday the 8th.
On edit May 3rd; This is a quote from Verbena;
“As of right now, the Mattole SLAPP (brought by PL) will be going to trial 8:30am, Monday morning at the Eureka Courthouse. It’s called Steve Wills Trucking et al v. North Coast Earth First! et al. Please come support those who have struggled for the old growth Doug Fir forests of the Mattole and for local control of the area for preservation for generations to come. Some of the people in Court you may know: Verbena, Jack, Ethan, Sara, Naomi, and others.”
Your support is needed both in the courtroom and in any way you can contribute. If you do come to the court please respect the court rules; no talking, hats off etc. etc. It is my take on matters that we should have contempt for the corruption in the courts and not the courts which should be a place of arbitration on an equal footing for the purpose of finding the truth and ethics of any matter brought into it. It is this corruption, largely the simple advantage of having lots of money, often gotten my unscrupulous means, and connection within the halls of government power that deserves our utmost contempt and which drives us to protest in the streets, the forests and so on. As it stands now the truth seems to be an unwelcome stranger in the courts where form seems to me to trump content almost totally.
